Itinerary

DAY 1: Depart Johannesburg, Arrive Cape Town
Begin your cultural odyssey in Cape Town via Johannesburg. Check in at The Commodore Hotel, a 4-star Legacy Hotels & Resorts property located at the highest point on Cape Town’s historic Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. The hotel offers spectacular views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill, Granger Bay, Table Bay and Robben Island. Its nautical theme is carried throughout the hotel, including the 150-seater Clipper seafood restaurant. Enjoy the gym overlooking the pool area with sauna and steam room. Within a 5-minute walk, the V&A Waterfront offers more than 80 restaurants that bring a fusion of international food, from rustic al fresco fish and chips to starched table-cloth cuisine.

DAYS 2 through 4: Cape Town
Cape Town is dominated by a towering, table-shaped mountain, set on a peninsula of soaring, rocky heights and lush valleys, where two oceans converge - Indian and Atlantic.

Enjoy free time to explore Cape Town on your own. Visit the famous Cape Peninsula, hike or take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain, explore Robben Island (site of Nelson Mandela's former prison cell) or meet locals in townships, churches and lively "shebeens".

DAY 5: Depart Cape Town, Arrive at Karongwe Private Game Reserve
Depart the Cape on a flight to Johannesburg with a connecting flight to Hoedspruit.* Transfer to your lodge accommodations in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve, east of the Drakensberg Mountains in the Limpopo Province.  

Check in at the Shiduli Private Game Lodge to an intimate guestroom with en-suite bathroom. Meals are included; delicious breakfasts and lunches feature fresh Pan African flavors and are served in the main building or on the deck. Dinner is a sumptuous candlelit affair. Guests can enjoy a lush indigenous garden dappled in shade, lounges with internet access, bar, sparkling swimming pool and thatched dining areas punctuated with original South African art.

DAYS 6 & 7: Karongwe Private Game Reserve
Two full days in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve allow for morning and evening shared game drives conducted in open safari vehicles by experienced game rangers, and the opportunity to pass through the bush on escorted walks. Observe the wildlife while enjoying lavish comfort, traditional cuisine and local culture at your safari camp.

The Karongwe Game Reserve borders Kruger National Park and encompasses 21,000 acres of African bushveld. Currently there are over 40 mammal species in the reserve, including the Big Five: Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo.

DAY 8: Depart for Johannesburg
A final morning to enjoy breakfast before returning via air to Johannesburg, South Africa.* 

Package excludes meals not indicated, gratuities, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, all airfare and airport departure taxes. Subject to blackout dates, including April 13-18 and December 10 - January 31.

Depart from New York (JFK) or Washington, DC (IAD) for South Africa to begin your cultural odyssey.

DAY 2: Arrive in South Africa
Upon arrival in Johannesburg and after clearing customs, you will be welcomed by an African Travel representative and escorted to your connecting flight to Cape Town. On arrival in Cape Town, you will again be greeted by a representative who will escort you to your vehicle for transfer to your hotel. Check in at The Commodore Hotel, a 4-star Legacy Hotels & Resorts property located at the highest point on Cape Town’s historic Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. DAY 10: Arrive USA

Package excludes meals not indicated, gratuities, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and airport departure taxes. Subject to blackout dates, including April 13-18 and December 10 - January 31.

AIRFARE

South African Airways - This package includes round-trip coach class airfare for two from New York (JFK) or Washington, DC (IAD) to South Africa, as well as all domestic airfare within South Africa, subject to availability.

NOTE:  Winning bidder will be responsible for their transportation/airfare to New York (JFK) or Washington, DC (IAD).

Airfare must be booked within one year from the date of purchase. Airfare taxes and a $25 per person processing fee are the responsibility of the purchaser. Blackout dates: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s weeks.

Business and First Class upgrades are available at the time of booking for an additional fee. Use of frequent flyer miles for upgrades is dependent on specific ticket restrictions as determined by the airline’s frequent flyer program.
