James Beard, acclaimed cookbook author and teacher, was a champion of American cuisine who educated and mentored generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts. Today the Beard Foundation continues in the same spirit, offering events and programs designed to educate, inspire, entertain and foster a deeper understanding of our culinary culture. In addition to maintaining the historic James Beard House in New York Citys Greenwich Village as a performance space for visiting chefs, the Foundation hosts conferences, tastings, lectures, and food-related art exhibits in New York City and around the country. JBF is recognized as the center of Americas culinary community.

The James Beard Foundation Awards, presented every spring at Lincoln Center, are the highest honor for culinary professionals in North America. Nominees and winners are feted at a weekend of events in New York City that has become the social and gastronomic event of the year. Past winners include Wolfgang Puck, Lifetime Achievement Award; Boulevard San Francisco, Outstanding Restaurant; and The Fry Bread House in Phoenix, Americas Classic Winner.

Enjoy a private dinner party for up to 12 people in the exclusive, elegant Peter Kump boardroom located on the top floor of the famous James Beard House.

Both established and emerging guest chefs from around the world are invited to the James Beard House to prepare special dinners throughout the year. Guest chefs and dinner themes have included:

BLACK TRUFFLE FÊTE:  Nicholas Elmi, Laurel, Philadelphia - Who better to lead a decadent black truffle tour than Top Chef winner Nicholas Elmi, a Le Bec-Fin alum whose modern bistro Laurel draws raves from Philly critics? Put yourself in Elmi’s expert hands for this winter indulgence as he returns to the Beard House.

CELEBRATING A LEGEND - MISS ELLA:  Dinner included a signed copy of "Miss Ella of Commander's Palace." JBF AWARD WINNER, Tory McPhail, Commander's Palace, New Orleans. Arguably the matriarch of the New Orleans restaurant industry, Ella Brennan is the driving force behind Crescent City landmark Commander’s Palace and its multiple James Beard Awards. Join us as we honor this Creole cuisine icon through a celebration of Miss Ella’s favorite dishes by JBF Award–winning chef Tory McPhail.

TWO MICHELIN STARS: Ryan McCaskey, Acadia, Chicago.  Named after Maine’s famous national park, Acadia is home to cuisine inspired by this coastal state, as well as to three-time JBF Award semifinalist Ryan McCaskey. Join us when he presents a five-year anniversary menu of Acadia highlights.

 At Julia Child's suggestion, former James Beard student Peter Kump (founder of the Institute of Culinary Education) and friends raised the funds to make a down-payment on Beard's New York brownstone in Greenwich Village in 1987 and preserved it as a gathering place where food enthusiasts can appreciate the talents of established and emerging chefs.

Dinner includes mineral water, wine, coffee/tea service and gratuity.  Dinner events can only be booked 90 days in advance.  Events are typically available three days per week but are subject to availability at the James Beard House. The Boardroom can accommodate no more than 12 guests.  Minimum legal drinking age is 21.

Must be booked a minimum of 60 days in advance. Reservations are subject to availability. Certificates cannot be replaced if lost, stolen or destroyed. All purchases are non-refundable. Packages cannot be resold. Ground transportation is not included.
